ABOUT ME

My name is Kaitlyn Vanderhoof, and I am currently a student at Colorado State University. I am studying interior architecture and design and am wanting to work in the residential side of design. I am from Glenwood Springs, Colorado and have lived in the Roaring Fork Valley for my entire life. Growing up I have always had a passion for art and design and wanted to be able to do it as a job in my future.

Working at Studio133 with Christopher Powell in Carbondale, Colorado has introduced me to the high-end design world. Learning the business side of a design firm gave me insight on how to buy and sell products, stay organized, bill customers, and balance checking accounts. Being Christopher's intern, I have also been able to become more detailed in my designs and the do's and don'ts of what to use throughout current projects within the firm. In addition, knowing the importance of detailed finish schedules and how they are referred back to constantly.

 

I have had some experience with various design projects and sales in the past when working at Roaring Fork Furniture in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. Working as a sales woman helped me learn the variety of furniture companies around the world, along with how they are made and how important it is to create a relationship with the reps. The knowledge of sales has also helped me understand how to talk to customers and help them know what they want even when they are unsure.

Studying at Colorado State University has given me a lot of different skills that I am able to use in the real world. Being tasked with both residential and commercial design has given me an idea on both sides of the design. Learning Revit, AutoCAD, Sketchup, Enscape, Photoshop, and other Adobe products has given me the ability to create 2D and 3D designs. I am also able to use a laser cutter and 3D printer to create physical presentations of buildings that I created. During my time at CSU I was given multiple projects at once. Being able to stay organized and productive with my time, I was able to learn how to handle the multiple projects and make them high quality.
