For this project, I was in a group with six others and we were asked to create an elementary school in Fort Collins, Colorado. The concept behind this project is the Native American tribe that was based in Fort Collins. The Arapahoe tribe had a Council Tree that they would gather around and it was the heart of their village. In the design of this elementary school a tree was placed in the center of the building to create a courtyard for the kids to play or for classes to be held when the weather is nice. There are two levels to this school, having the older kids on the second floor and the younger kids mainly on the first floor. There is a set of exterior stairs to bring in the idea of the flow in nature and connect it with the way Native American tribes interact with nature.
